Simple house may help prevent multiple fatal diseases in African children

A study in rural Gambia found children in houses with concrete floors, closed eaves, screened windows, and metal roofs had significantly lower rates of malaria, diarrhea, and respiratory infections. The improved housing reduced disease incidence by 14-21% compared to traditional homes.
