1981 Spanish cooking oil disaster

Toxic oil syndrome was a 1981 mass poisoning in Spain caused by consumption of adulterated rapeseed cooking oil. The industrial oil was illegally sold as olive oil and contained toxic aniline-denatured rapeseed oil, affecting over 20,000 people and causing hundreds of deaths.
