This article traces the evolution of wuxia (Chinese martial arts fiction) from its chivalric roots to contemporary styles like xianxia and involution. It argues that wuxia reflects the changing political and social pressures of China, shifting from knightly ideals of justice to narratives of endless, grinding competition for survival.
