Background
Qualcomm (QCOM) is the world's largest mobile-chip supplier (Snapdragon) and a major 5G/automotive chip player. It wants to reduce reliance on smartphones and catch up in AI hardware.
Modular is a ~3-year-old startup that created **Mojo** — a new programming language blending Python's ease with C++/CUDA speed for AI workloads. Modular also builds software to run AI models on any chip without rewriting code.
Why it matters: AI inference is moving from data-center GPUs to edge devices (phones, cars, laptops). Qualcomm has strong edge hardware but weak developer tools.
