OpenTTD 16.0-Beta1
OpenTTD 16.0-Beta1 has been released, introducing new features, improvements, and bug fixes for the open-source transport simulation game. This beta version invites players to test the upcoming changes and provide feedback before the stable release.
Background
OpenTTD is a free, open-source remake of the classic 1995 video game Transport Tycoon Deluxe (by Chris Sawyer). Players build and manage transport companies (trains, trucks, ships, aircraft) to connect industries and cities, earning money and growing their network. The game is known for its deep simulation, modding community, and active multiplayer. This 16.0-Beta1 release is a major milestone: it adds 60 fps support, a rewritten map generator, improved pathfinding for trains (solving long-standing routing issues), and many quality-of-life UI updates. For the OpenTTD community — mostly hobbyist programmers and retro-gaming enthusiasts — this beta marks a rare, substantial engine overhaul after years of incremental updates.
