CrowdSound: A Song Composed Anonymously by the Internet
CrowdSound was a collaborative online project that allowed anonymous users on the internet to collectively compose a song by voting on lyrics and music. The final song, titled "Lyrics," was created through a democratic, crowd-sourced process over a set period.
Background
CrowdSound was an experimental online music project (circa 2010s) that let anyone on the internet anonymously contribute a single word to a song's lyrics, one at a time. Visitors would see the current lyric being built, decide whether to add the next word, and the result was a collectively written, chaotic poem set to music. The project highlighted the dynamics of anonymous crowdsourcing, internet trolls, and emergent creativity — similar in spirit to Twitch Plays Pokémon or Wikipedia but constrained to collaborative songwriting. The archived page shows the final lyric output of that experiment.
