UK records its highest ever May temperature

The UK has recorded its highest ever May temperature, with the mercury reaching over 27°C in parts of the country. The new record was set in southern England, surpassing the previous May high of 27.5°C. Meteorologists attributed the unseasonably warm weather to a plume of hot air from continental Europe.
